When the Future Is Unknown

I was unsure what I should do about my upcoming class schedule. I looked at the available classes, credits, and time slots. There were so many options to choose from but the countless options made my decision harder to make. What if I made the wrong decision? Have you ever felt that way—questioning your decisions because you’re stressed about the future? Especially when there are so many decisions to face in our lives—when (and whether!) to attend college, get married, have children, etc. We often believe the future depends on us, but that isn’t true. The future is actually in God’s hands. He is our Creator, He knows everything, and He is working everything for His good kingdom purposes (Genesis 1:1; Romans 8:28-39; 1 John 3:19-20). When the choices we need to make cause us to worry about the future, we can instead choose to trust God with what’s to come. Yes, the future may seem scary on the surface, but Jesus is sovereign over everything that happens in our lives. The details of our futures are always unknown because we aren’t in control: God is.
