Counseling and Other Help

In Unlocked, sometimes we talk about mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, insomnia, etc. We also talk about physical, verbal, emotional, mental, sexual, and spiritual abuse. In all these things, Jesus gives us tremendous hope, and He is eager to help us through His Holy Spirit, His Word (the Bible), and His people (the church). If you or someone you know is struggling with anything we’ve listed here and you don’t know who to talk to, please reach out to one of the following services. Don’t hesitate. Reach out as soon as you can.

Suicide

If you or someone you know is experiencing feelings of hopelessness or suicidal thoughts, tell a trusted adult right away.

*You can call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. You can also talk with someone via web chat (988lifeline.org/chat). If your situation is potentially life-threatening, call 911 (or the emergency number for your area) or go to the local hospital emergency room right away.

*If you need someone to talk to but are not in need of immediate help, you can request a conversation with Focus on the Family’s Counseling Department by calling 1-855-771-HELP (4357) weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Mountain Time), or by completing their Counseling Consultation Request Form. Please be prepared to leave your contact information for a counselor to return a call to you as soon as possible. The consultation is available at no cost to you due to generous donor support and will be with a licensed or pastoral counseling specialist. In Canada, book your appointment by calling 1-800-661-9800 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) and ask to speak with the care associate.
